Floods of '53
Was 7, lived at 'Ocean View' opposite Ostend Road, the sea never reached our house. I remember seeing the total devastation the following day. My adopted mother, Doris Bean, worked at the Stores for Chippy and Bill Murphy, and after the Village Hall was built, helped run the Dances and Whist Drives. I left Walcott in '66, but returned to live again in 2010. I intend to start a village history group, and have already collected material. If anyone can assist with photos, press cuttings, docs etc, or memories, then please contact me. My tel no 01692/651798

ref W400054. This photograph shows a Vauxhall Viva. I think this photo is dated between 1967-70, probably nearer 67 as the caravan seen centre left is my grandfather's and that partiucler van, a Marston, was not bought until 1967. The PO was run by Mr & Mrs Murphy. I spent most summer weekends and annual holidays at Walcott from 1957 to 1970.
Walcott Caravan Site
The old showman's type caravan at the back of the field was owned by a Mr Palmer and was still on the site in 1970 when we left (the site was being sold). Mr Palmer had a small dinghy in which he used to go fishing out to sea, having launched from the beach with Mr Bishop from another van on the site. The boat could have been Bishop's, I'm not sure.
Memories of Norfolk
St Peter's Court
I was a boarder at St Peter's Court, Bacton, Norfolk in the 1950s and a few years ago I found Rosemary, the daughter of the headmaster, in a village nearby. Sadly no one else had left their names so that some of us old boys could find each other. I wish I could find some old boarders but it seems unlikely. I can only remember a boy who came from Mundesley or North Walsham whose father ran a building firm. Lovely to find this site, thanks. Since this first memory I have had contact from an old boy in Aussie thanks to The Francis Frith Collection.
St Peter's Court Bacton
I was a boarder at St Peter's Court Bacton when my father was posted to Palestine. I remember Sir Humphrey Fenn who was the headmaster and Rosemary his daughter. I have driven passed several times during the summer months over the past few year and decided one day to knock on the door and met Christopher. I was a little disapointed to find that he did not share any memories. Unfortuneately I cannot remember any of the other schoolchildren by name. I was there for about a year. All I can remember was that we moved from the previous boarding school at Mundham (I think). I seem to remember being happy there and having to listen to classical music from an old Grundig record player once a week in a rather large sitting room.
My name is John Jenkins and when I retired from the RAF in 1978 I remained in Norfolk and retired at the age of 65.

Eden Hall
I was at a home for sick kids, Eden Hall, I had some happy moments there.
St Peters Court
I played football for Bacton Primary School against St Peter's Court, a window was broken! The headmaster was always walking to Walcott (where I lived) and wore plimsoles.
My Caravan Holidays at Bacton
I can remember many happy holidays at Bacon, staying at a caravan site (I can't remember which one). At the site shop there was an Alsatian dog called Elva, I suppose she was the guard dog. I loved climbing down the steps etched out of the cliffs, to the wonderful sandy beach below. I would fish for shrimps, and enjoyed the white sand and swimming in the sea. For our tea, Mum, Dad and I would walk to the village and queue for our fish and chips at the local "chippie". I revisted Bacon in 1967, with a school friend. Our first holiday without our parents. We stayed in a cabin, and I can remember going to the local Pub. They were starting to build the oil rig, and we met some American's working on the rig, but that then changed( in my opinion) the wonderful beach. Now living in New Zealand, I often wonder what Bacton is like now. If anybody reads this I would love to hear from them. Sue... Read more
