Church Street

I was born above the barber shop and Chronicle office on Church Street, if anyone knows it please reply. I would love to talk to anyone who lived there. I was born in 1949 and went to Walker R.C. School, I can't find any photos of Church Street, has anyone got any? My email is: davyallan06@hotmail.co.uk - if you have some, would you send me some?

RE: RE: Church Street

I think I might know you. I was born in 1948 and lived at 40 Church Street. I used to sometimes play with a little lad called David Allen and also a boy called George Bell. Did you live above Peggy Wisharts barber shop? My house was right at the bottom of Hexham Ave opposite the Vauderville Cinema, I still remember all the old shops on Church Street and a lot of the people who lived there. I was the youngest girl in a big family I loved living at Church Street I went to Walker RC school until we moved house. I did have photos of Church Street and a book with photos of it in that I bought sometime ago from the library, I’ve put them away somewhere if I come across them I’ll send them to you.

RE: RE: Church Street

Hello everyone, I have lived in Walker all my life, born in a prefab and moved to Hibernia Flats next to Church Street at the bottom of West Walker School. The other day someone asked me 'What was the name of the company that was situated at the bottom of West Walker School near Caledonia Street? It looked like some sort of iron works, it was surrounded by large black fencing and ended at Bernard Street. We used to store our bonny wood (wood for the bonfire on Guy Fawkes Night) behind the large black fencing, my older brother said he remembers large chimneys there when he was a young un'. Does any one know of the building?!
