Restaurant in Walton On Thames High Street
As a child we used to go to eat at a restaursant in Walton on Thames High Street, it was where Zio Toto's now is roughly, and in the 1960s it was United Dairies. I'm thinking it was maybe French or something along those lines and I am desperately searching for the name of it - can anyone can help?

This is one of the picturehouses that we could choose from on a Saturday. Many a happy Saturday morning was spent here with lots of children, with not a lot of pocket money!

What fun was had by many children on a Saturday morning by going to the picture house. There were two in Walton so we were spoilt for choice. The ladies that looked after us all did a grand job. I was allowed to get the 218 bus from the barley mow bus stop. l felt really grown up - l could... [more]

Surrey memories
Not many cars about, not like now. What a wonderful happy place to live where everyone said 'Good morning', unlike now where everybody is too busy with life to take time out and smile. All we do is moan about this and that, smile it will make a difference to everyone. Bring good old Hersham back to being a fun place... [more]

I remember this picture very well. Just down the road from Woolworths by the white car, was a Launderette (maybe it's still there). This Launderette was the first one ever introduced to the UK from America in 1959. As we had no washing machine or dryer, this place certainly changed our lives. I can remember one day I was with my... [more]

Some years ago I gave my mother a book of Old Weybridge photos for Mothering Sunday as this is where she was brought up.
Imagine her surprise, on seeing this picture of Queens Road in Weybridge, to realise that the two people on the far right were her mother and younger sister, Edith & Lesley Johnson. She recognised her... [more]

Childhood days at rivermead island
Rivermead Island takes me back to my childhood through the 1960s, I remember the outdoor swimming pool, BRRR! Paddling in the Thames, a real family place to go on summer Sundays, school holidays. My first school was just across the road, Beauclerc, which was shut and pulled down. The big white building was owned by a Major Morris, offices downstairs, flats... [more]

Down the Thames Photographic Memories
Downstream, past Weybridge, the Desborough Cut of 1935 by-passes a winding loop, to reach Walton-on-Thames. Beyond Walton Bridge is this boathouse and its harbour inlet off the river, here charmingly informal. It is now Walton Marina, with an emphasis on cabin cruisers rather than punts. The building survives, clad in plastic weatherboarding, but the banks have been sheet-piled and denuded of... [more]

Down the Thames Photographic Memories
As Jerome K Jerome observed, 'only the tiniest corner of it (Walton on Thames) comes down to the river'. Here, as we look downstream by the former ferry and towpath, working barges mingle with leisure rowing boats for hire. Beyond is the Swan's garden, then boathouses (now the Boathouse Gallery); the sheds have been replaced by The Anglers pub, probably built... [more]

Here we see girls with fishing nets at a popular Thames-side location. The Swan has been on this spot since 1770. The recreational aspect of the river in the foreground is in stark contrast to the huge lighters tied up beyond.
