This is one of the picturehouses that we could choose from on a Saturday. Many a happy Saturday morning was spent here with lots of children, with not a lot of pocket money!

What fun was had by many children on a Saturday morning by going to the picture house. There were two in Walton so we were spoilt for choice. The ladies that looked after us all did a grand job. I was allowed to get the 218 bus from the barley mow bus stop. l felt really grown up - l could only have been 10 or 11.

I also found that Mount Felix was the home of the start of Thomas Cook travel, founded by a previous occupant.

Mount Felix

I lived in Mount Felix for nearly 20 years, first at No. 1 and then at Flat 4. It was a magical place for children to play and so near to the river, which when I was older, I was able to go for walks and fish in the river plus enjoying many picnics. During the 2nd World War, many residents used the vast cellars for shelter, but some of us stayed put above ground. The only damage done was windows shattered in our flat. The disused ballroom which had a sprung floor served as a place for Rabbit shows, and after the bombing, at Vickers factory, bodies were laid out for identification. Later on it was used as a small business property. The overgrown tennis courts were used to put up washing lines and also the place where we used to have communal bonfire and fireworks on November 5th. I married in 1957, and continued living there for a couple of years before moving away. I was saddened when... Read more

Leggett And Halke.

Not really a memory but I wonder if anyone has any info on any of these names, Leggett and Halke. My grandad was Frank Halke and he married Hettie Leggett in 1903 in the Wesleyan chapel in Walton....I think the Leggett family were well known as vets in the area. Any info or memories would be fantastic.....my email is: donnamilee@yahoo.co.uk Thankyou.

Restaurant in Walton On Thames High Street

As a child we used to go to eat at a restaursant in Walton on Thames High Street, it was where Zio Toto's now is roughly, and in the 1960s it was United Dairies. I'm thinking it was maybe French or something along those lines and I am desperately searching for the name of it - can anyone can help?

Memories of Surrey

Molesey Road

Not many cars about, not like now.  What a wonderful happy place to live where everyone said 'Good morning', unlike now where everybody is too busy with life to take time out and smile.  All we do is moan about this and that, smile it will make a difference to everyone. Bring good old Hersham back to being a fun place to live.

One of my Favourite Fishing Spots

There used to be a bridge over the river here, but the bridge was blown up by the army around 1958. It was a fantastic sight and we rushed over to the river after the explosion to see all the dead fish.

Family Tree Research

Not really a memory. I was wondering if anybody has any information on the Mortimer family that lived at Molesley Close, Hersham round about the 1920's. I am researching the family tree and any information would be very helpful. My e-mail address is speedygonzalees@btinternet.com Many thanks.

Walking to School

My brother and I used to walk to Shepperton Green school across the fields from Manygate Lane, where we lived, we used to stop and watch the blacksmith shoeing horses just before taking the path that used to pass another smalll school and big market garden that stretched to Laleham Road, in the summer the gypsie waggons would set up camp near the school in Sheep Walk and they would make pegs and artifical flowers to sell locally, we often talk about all the butterflies and wildflowers that have been lost since the road was built. Saturday mornings I would drive about a dozen cows belonging to Merrick Farm along the road and over Walton Bridge to let them graze on the lush grass by the river, then take them back and got paid one shilling, we also helped out at a boat hire place near the Ship Hotel in the summer and part of the job was to row the fishermen across the Thames - what a lovely... West Molesey in The 1960s

Can anyone remember the shops opposite St Peter's Church, West Molesey or did you work in them? To name a few: Mitchells greengrocer, Tesco the Modern Grocer, Marchall H Dixon, butcher, Stevens newsagent, Regent Fisheries, next to the Royal Oak pub, Millers Confectioner. It would be interesting to hear from you. I worked at and managed Tesco in the 1960s or perhaps you may remember the vicar, Father John Yeend, it would be good to hear from you.
