Serendipity finding this site. Unfortunately I do not remember Alan cooper but we must have been contemporaries. Like you Alan I started my education at St Hilda's in 1949. However I continued it at Breech Lane Primary until 1957 when I took the 406 in the opposite direction to Glynn Grammar at Ewell. I well remember the Police Houses, being born in and brought up at 5 Chequers ...see more
I was born and lived in Chequers Lane Walton in 40s. Our house which was No 74 was the Police House and I used to cycle to St Hildas School at Tadworth, run by Miss Adams who lived in house opposite Chappell's newsagent in Tadworth. I went to school with young Chappell. but sadly cannot remember his name. Used to be great as a kid riding across the wonderful expanse of Walton Heath and the ...see more
A while ago, a lady who came from Walton, was sharing her memories and mentioned she had been on holiday on the other side of the world. She had met someone who lived there and who had said they new of Walton, and of a particular gentleman, Mr Harry Bridges. I would love to read that memory again as Harry Bridges was my grandad
I was born in Breech Lane, Walton on the Hill, 1940. My wife was also born in the village so we also have great memories and would love to make contact with old school friends.
I was lucky enough to ride some some lovely ponies and horses stabled on The Avenue. My mum and l would ride out over Epsom Downs, Walton Heath, Headley Heath and Mickleham Downs. It was a wonderful way to experience the countryside and l remember the sights and sounds and smells so vividly. Sometimes we would stop off at the Sportsman pub for a shandy, tethering up the horses outside, and in the ...see more
My great-grandfather Henry Dudley grew up in Walton On The Hill, as did many of his ancestors and siblings. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1874. His father Jacob Dudley married my great-great-grandmother Jemima King in 1828 and they had eleven children. Walton On The Hill, I am proud to say, looks every bit as I would have imagined it to be, a beautiful, peaceful and serene location. Next ...see more
My grandmother, Lillian Kemp, lived at 9 Howard Close. We visited regularly and had the best days running all over the village. Fishing sticklebacks out of the pond, looking for rats at the rubbish dump (!), trying to catch the wild kittens, riding various ponies bare back, raiding orchards for apples, watching the shire horses pulling the brewery dray on Derby Day as they set off from the Chequers ...see more
I am researching my family tree and have recently obtained a copy of a death certificate. The informant of the death (also present at the death) was Betsy H. Stockall of Rambler Cottage, Walton-on-the-Hill. Her husband's name was George and they married in 1915. I would be grateful for any information regarding the cottage or the Stockall family. No road name is mentioned so I am unsure as to the ...see more
