Hearnville Road Primary School
I remember Miss Cox's retirement (I have a teacher group photo of that), and the outside toilets at Hearnville Road that used to freeze in the winter. I was there from 1950 - 1956. I lived in Endlesham Road, with my father.

RE: RE: Hearnville Road Primary School
Hi, Christine!
Sorry not to have responded sooner, but I've only just discovered your comment.
Any chance you can e mail me copies of the photos you mention?
As a result of my initial enquiry, I am now in touch with Enid Woodhams (as was) who was there at roughly the same time as me. No one else (apart from you) has returned any input.
My e mail address is : rayl@waitrose.com

RE: RE: Hearnville Road Primary School
Hello Christine
I was at Hearnville Road from 1952 to 1955
I lived just around the corner in Endlesham Road.
Not only do I remember those freezing cold toilets but I also remember the building where we ate our school meals. The smell of the greens remains with me even now!
I returned in 1975 but adly the school had gone.
If you are able to e mail copies of the photographs then that would be terrific
Kind regards
John

RE: RE: Hearnville Road Primary School
I attended Hearnville Road from 1947 -1954. I remember some of the teachers, Miss Cox (Head), Mr. Bridgeman (my grandad threatened to thump him for keeping me back in detention), Mrs. Demartino?, Mrs Macpartlin?, Mrs Giles, Mrs Collard, Ms.Clark, Ms Double and Ms. Gray. Mr. Shannon and Mr. Sullivan ( He had a motorbike that didn't work very well !!!). I remember some of the girls, Marion Cane, Sonia Hamilton, Barbara Allen, Christine Frost, Lucy Thompson, Anne Worsley, Christine Gatfield. And some of the boys, Billy Blumsum, Freddie Stiles, Derek Graham. I clearly remember the wonderful aromas of the school dinners- when we could afford the luxury-. Also remember the dreaded nurse visits , checking our hair for nits, and of course Empire Day. I was always a chimney sweep in the parade; didn't have to dress up for it. All of blessed memory, is there anybody out there?
