Baptist Church

London Road c1960
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

The building with a clock tower on the right was the old Baptist church. It was knocked down in the early 1960s in order to widen the road (which was of course the main Portsmouth to London road in those days) and was replaced by the modern baptist church about half a mile further north along London Road (between Avondale Road and Billet Ave).

RE: RE: Baptist Church

As a resident of Waterlooville for 30 odd years this is the first photo I've seen of the old church and I must say it's completely baffling why anyone would've wanted to have knocked it down and then built that terrible 1960's church we have today, an absolute disgrace. The Waterlooville of today lacks any character and it saddens me to think that the councillors and town planers of the 1960's thought it sensible to destroy the only character the town has got or ever will have, shameful!
