Elizabeth Emma Wheeler
Hi My grandmother was Elizabeth Emma Wheeler, who, as far as I can ascertain, came from Watlington. I have not been able to find much information about her, even from her only surviving daughter. The only indication I have found about her early life was that she had some connection to the Dr Barnado's childrens home. I don't know if she was actually a Barnado's child, and if she definately came from Watlington. I would be grateful if anyone could give me any information that might help me trace her origins, and if there was a Dr Barnado's home in the area. Thanks Ray Mitchell - 08/01/10

Hi there Raymond, just wondering if your grandmother is any relation to a Henry Ernest Wheeler, victualler of the Black Lion Inn in 1937, wife's name Edith Ellen Wheeler, nee Cordell. You can contact me at: kerrymonte@hotmail.com Kind regards, Kerry Montefiore, nee Wheeler

RE: RE: Elizabeth Emma Wheeler
Hello Kerry, Unfortunately, I don't have any details about my grandmother before she was married. Her marriage certificate shows that she was married on April 15th, 1906 to my grandfather Frederick Henry Mitchell. She was then 24 years of age, and her father was shown as deceased, with no known Christian name. They were married in Westminster, London, and my grandfather's job was shown as 'Distillery Labourer'. I was told by my dad's only surviving sister that Elizabeth Emma came from Oxfordshire, but she did not know any other details apart from the Barnado's reference. Hope this helps in some way. If it has any connection, I would be pleased to hear about it. Thanks

Hi Raymond, still searching, not really getting any conections, it's a long process as I'm sure you know, especialy when there's no rellies left to ask. Also, dates are the biggest problem - was Emma married to a plumber by any chance, and did she live in High Street or Brooke Street in Watlington? Cheers, Kerry.
