The Laurels
The front room of The Laurels used to be used as the pay office for the estate workers when they collected their weekly pay. The Estate Bailiff lived there, which is near to the Estate Yard, which really was the nerve centre of the Wenvoe Estate building operation. At the time the estate was owned by Mrs Laura Jenner, who died in 1935.

RE: RE: The Laurels
I was employed as a carpenter's apprentice on the Plymouth Estate from 1942 until I entered the army at the age of 17. I lived with my parents and Uncle at Little Mill, right by the Dowlais Brook on the road to St Brides Super Ely. I was apprenticed to Jim Radford who was the Master Carpenter, and because of the war was still working although over 70 years old, the other carpenter was Fred Brown who was even older than Jim, we travelled all over the various properties on the estate, and there are many interesting stories to be told. I am now in my eighty third year and have lived in South West Ontario since 1965. I still like to visit the old haunts at St Fagans with my boyhood pal Malcolm Tennick where we enjoy a couple of pints in the Plymouth Arms. Malcolm's grandfather was the licensee there for very many years. We turn back and reminisce about the old days and the people we knew as boys and wonder how they are all keeping and which directions their lives went in. Would be glad to hear from anyone who might remember me at rj.tonkin@hay.net.
