Winchmore Hill And Palmers Green Memories
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: My mother Milly and father Bert moved to Winchmore Hill from Camden/Kentish Town. I was born in 1944 at The North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton. I grew up initially in Arundel Gardens (23). I went to a Mrs Smith's nursery in Compton Road, followed by Highfield JMI and Winchmore Secondary School. My brother Derek was born in 1955. We moved to Queens Avenue in 1957. I played guitar in three local rock bands throughout the 60s.
I was for 6 years a compositor's apprentice at Bennett & Starling, Windmill Hill, Enfield. As a Journeyman I worked for typesetting companies in the London EC1 area.
I moved out of N21 from 1970-1976 returning to live in Green Dragon Lane, my sons both first attending St Paul's School, then the eldest to Enfield Grammar the youngest to Southgate School.
I remarried in 1998 to Liz, in 2001 we moved to our current home in Hemel Hempstead.

Winchmore Seconday Modern School
I would like to get in touch with former pupils at this school. My name at that time was, Cynthia Bradshaw. I lived at Hadley Way, not far from Grange Park, Green Dragon Lane, also near Grovelands Park. I started in 1947 and left in 1951. My last form teacher was Miss Todd, there was Miss Jack who use to teach cookery and Mrs Metcalf was the P.E. teacher. It would be nice if I could come into contact with Pat Allan and Bobby or anyone who remembers me.
Farndale Avenue Palmers Green
I lived at 72 Farndale Avenue and went to Winchmore Hill School. We used to spend all our summers at the swimming pool in Barrowell Green , My surname was Hall.

Yes, definitely Brimleys. I lived opposite in Queens Avenue.
Timber Yard
The timber yard at 699 Green Lanes was Brimley's.
Timber Yard
Yup, I think it was called Parkers (or was it the one in Palmers Green?).
699 Green Lanes
Does anyone recall the name of the Timber Yard near to the Police Station before it became Travis Perkins?
Cinema
I was born in Palmers Green in Jan 1940 and lived at 18 Farndale Ave. from 1948-1960. I went to Winchmore Hill Secondary Modern from 1951-1953. I remember the Capitol Cinema and the Saturday morning film club which was a part of most kids' lives at the time. It was either the Capitol or the Palmadium depending what was on. Sometimes there would be the usual Cowboy and Indian stuff or films about German spies, which would fire up the blood so that when we all piled out at the end we would run round the corner, over the new river bridge on Fords Grove and into the small woodland at the back of the Capitol where we would split into warring factions and recreate what we had just seen on screen. If it was summer and hot we would take swimming gear and go to the pool in Barrowell Green before going home in the afternoon. Those WERE the days. Does anybody remember the fish and chip shop on...
