Milton The Blacksmith at Withypool Somerset
A friend in the USA has asked me to make contact with anyone in Withypool who may recall his ancestors. John and James Milton. One was a blacksmith there way back possibly in the mid 1800's is there anyone who has any knowledge of the families in Withypool back then.
I attempted to find a library, and or tourist center.......who would I contact?

A Family Wedding Reception in Winsford
My cousin Rob Allen re-married Jackie on Thursday 7th May 2009 at the Tiverton Register Office. The happy couple and guests then moved on to the Royal Oak at Winsford for a wedding buffet, afternoon stroll in the sunshine followed by a dinner in the pub's private dining room! The afternoon stroll led us along the bridle way towards Tarr Steps with lovely views over the countryside.
The bride and groom had a wonderful day and invited the chef to join them for a tipple following the magnificent meal. Much wine flowed to accompany the Beef Wellington. We stayed overnight sleeping in a real four-poster bed and enjoyed a full "English Breakfast" the next morning!

Lion Garage
I was working at the Lion Grage then, Mr & Mrs Ros in the Tantivy. First thing in the morning I would go to Mr Ross for our fags (pay him on Friday - pay day), the garage then was open seven days a week for petrol (Esso), Sundays people were coming back off the moors and would fill with petrol. Go to the Tantivy for ice cream, it was good days, the Lion Hotel and the Lamb Hotel always full with guets, the times we had to garage the cars three abreast for the people staying in the hotel. Some nights we could not get them in so we put them around at Jack Arnold's for the night, fetch them in the morning and chamoise the cars off so the customers thought their car had been garaged all night, I believe it was 2 shillings a night (1060/1963). Windsor Bros Van 1937
I worked for Windsor Bros. The butchers name carried on. The owner then was Gordon Summers. I was a slaughterman. Around the back was the slaughter house, now demolished. I used to work there with Steve. Cannot remember his last name. He lived in the flat over the shop, when Mr Summers moved out to his bungalow. When the carcases were hanged up. Mr Morgan used to come and inspect them to see if they were fit for human consumption. Fish was sold, delivered overnight from Grimsby I think. There were two delivery vans, small ones. No heaters or radios in those days. The winter was cold with snow. I know some days I went out with someone else who could not get to work to deliver on Exmoor. We fitted chains to the vans rear wheels. Other wise you could not get around. When I got to one of the large houses the cook said that I was looking cold. She said "Try this, boy". One Summer
I worked as a 16 yr old in this hotel in 1960, I have lovely memories of the place. Also the hotel looks different to me now. We, the staff, lived in a bunglow at the end of the back garden. I think it was owned by Mr & Mrs Howlin. One of the children was called Melanie - they were Welsh ... the bar man was called Cowboy. I also remember a railway station close by. The guests came for fishing trips. The head waitress was Mrs Summerville, the Cook was Dorothy, also Mrs Harvey worked part time. I hope to visit some time again.
Summer Holidays
My grandparents lived in Porch Cottage in Luccombe.
I would often be taken to visit my grandparents but it was during the summer holidays I had the most fun.
Luccombe village is a magical place for a child and even more so in the summer months, it truly is one of the most beautiful places and the times I spent there are my happiest memories.
