Bedford Williams Store

Hello, does anyone remember the Bedford Williams Store in Victoria Street, Wolverhampton? I was employed there in 1962 until about 1964 in the fabric department and I also worked on the button covering counter and stocking repairs. My supervisor's name was Miss Corkingdale. I would love to see if anyone remembers the store. I now live in Australia and I am trying to build a memory book about my life in England. I was 15 years old when I started work there so it's been a long time. I hope someone can remember either me or the store, or both. Thank you from Kathy Downunder.

RE: RE: Bedford Williams Store

Hello, how amazing to read your note. I too am living in Australia for a while. I worked in Bedford Williams Store in about 1960 and only for about a year. I worked in the office on the first floor and shared duties on the cash desk at the bottom of the main staircase. I had a smart navy blue dress and a pair of high heeled navy shoes and descended that staircase like the queen until one day pride toppled me almost from top to bottom and I broke the heels from my shoes. The glove counter was directly in front of the desk and staircase and the glove lady was fierce and rather strict. I think she was Miss Fulford. I remember customers sat on little bentwood chairs and had gloves brought to them, on a grey flannel cloth, to try on I'm sorry I cannot generally remember peoples names. I will give some more thought to the time and I hope you have enjoyed hearing. Best Wishes, Ann

Hi, I remember the shop very well, I would buy things from there for school projects. Linda.
