Wood Bros. And Stuff
I do not have a photo of the actual glassworks buildings but I do have a group photograph of the staff that worked there. The photo is dated 1936 and includes my mother Vera Gillis (nee Parkin). I lived at 44 Windmill Road, went to Wombwell Modern School and worked at Darfiled Main from 1959 to 1964. I left Wombwell in 1966 to work in Nova Scotia, Canada where I stayed until 2000 when I moved to the States. Currently living in Kansas City, MO.
I went under my middle name Barry when I lived in England but changed to my first name John when I went to Canada. My dad John (Jack) spent most of his life working at Darfield Main along with his brother George (Juddy).
As a lad we used our own creative minds (which is what is lacking today) playing silly games on the street with such names as Jimmy Leonard, Ron and David Wilkinson, Peter Drable, Michael Bretton, Tina Sedons, Maureen Gill and Josephine Pickles. All Windmill Roaders. If anyone knows of or the where-a-bouts of any of these people I would be interested in hearing from you (them).

RE: RE: Wood Bros. And Stuff
I had a friend in Windmill Rd, Linda Savoury. No.49? Lived in Rimmington Road. My dad, Len Turner, was at the same pit as your dad until he had an accident. We left Yorkshire after that. I had music lessons in Hough lane with Miss Middleton. Went to Wath Grammar. Went on to do singing on professional stage in London and was a Black and White Minstrel. Now live in South Africa 38 years. I think I knew Maureen Gill - maybe the same Sunday School - Barnley Rd Methodist. My mum was a Bly from Darfield. Dads side were Turners former Halidays. All miners at Darfield main. Small world?
