I think my Grandfather was born on this street! He was called Wilfred Albert Parsk and fought in the Somme at about 16 years of age He never spoke much about the war but I know he lost a lot of his friends. He died in the 1980s but his memory is still cherished!

My memories of Kessingland was us catching the coach from outside the bakers in Stotfold (my home town), travelling down via Newmarket, passing the site where a young gypsy boy had been killed many moons ago. The brick school-like building is the former Reading Room of 1888, now appropriately a bookshop. Beyond is the Gothic pinnacled Wrentham Hall of 1862. The Jubilee Clock of 1897 (just visible on the central gable), given by Sir Alfred Gooch of Benacre Hall, has been removed. Wrentham Stores (right) has closed, but Broadways, beyond, remains.

Suffolk Villages Photographic Memories
The A12 runs through the village, with Chapel Road (leading to the Congregational chapel of 1778) to the left and Blythburgh Road to the right. Wrentham Stores (right), run by D G Sadd, overlooks the green. The Ford Cortina is parked outside Broadways, an 'RAC approved tearoom with bed and breakfast 10s 6d.' Opposite are the Reading Room of 1888 and the village hall of 1862. A central porch was added to Wren House, on the left, in c1975. ... [more]
