Gwynedd memories

Griffith Crossing

My Mum used to work for the Anglo American oil company on war work, her name was Rhoda Knight, and My Gran was Margaret Flynn from Caernarfon, She was a paint sprayer, painting the oil drums, where they went was supposed to be secret but she said you knew by the paint, such as light brown or sandy shade it was going to the desert, and greens for the jungle areas.

Memories of A Happy Childhood

I was born and grew up in the little village of Llanfairpwll. Mine was a happy childhood, free of drugs, vandalism and graffiti. Everyone knew everyone in the village, which in those days, over 60 years ago, was predominantly Welsh. We were taught in Welsh at the Infants School. Until one sunny afternoon, the excited English voices of evacuees from the English cities of the North were heard. Each home in the village was allotted their share of these children. The war had come to Llanfairpwll. Very soon afterwards, all the trees in the Column Woods were cut down and hauled away, to be used in the war effort.
The grand old house, Plas Llanfair was commandeered for barracks for Army personnel. First came a Welsh regiment. These were followed by a Scottish Regiment, the Lovett Scouts. Their pipe band marching through the village streets were a sight to behold, and it was the very first time I heard bagpipes playing.
When the Scots departed, the Yanks moved in. I... Read more

I have fondest memories of the old Prichard family and Frank DM who lived and ran the post office in Llanrug for years. Frank DM also ran the coaches opposite the post. It was a very sad day for Llanrug when Mrs Prichard widow of Frank DM and her family left the post office. When I go to the post I can still see in my mind Mr. and Mrs Frank DM Prichard.

Ty'n Y Buarth

Would anyone reading this, have any knowledge, or photographs of Ty'n y Buarth, Llanrug? Where it once stood, there is now a modern housing estate. My e mail address is: abergele1754@hotmail.co.uk.

Happy Childhood

I lived with my grandmother who was Sara Catherine Roberts and we lived in Liverpool House, Penisarwaun. I was a teenager and lived there for about three years. I went to school at Llanrug, the one down the bottom of a lane. My name then was Wendy Williams and my father was Daniel Williams, who left Wales early in his life. Life was great there and one of the highlights was going into Caernarfon on a Saturday afternoon to the pictures. I remember Siop Gron when it was a shop and the post office when it was round the back of the village. My grandmother went to the Methodist chapel on the Deiniolen road and I went to St Helen's from time to time. I was not a very good church attendant. There was a house on the corner opposite Siop Gron where we waited for the school bus and my grandmother was friends with the lady who lived there, I think she had a daughter called Susan but I... Childhood Holidays

We came here in Easter 1983 to 1986 with the school, I loved every minute of it. I am hoping to come back soon for a trip down memory lane, can't wait. 06.08.09 Dave Waite, Hall Road Junior High School, Hull

My Childhood Memories of Menai Bridge

Suspension Bridge 1890

My father was born in Talwrn near Llangefni and each year we would go by train to Liverpool and then go to the pier head and board St Tudno which sailed at 10 30 am, dropping people off about 12 in Llandidno then onto Menai Bridge, where we arrived around 2pm. We always looked to see who could see Menai Bridge first, and passing by Bango Pier we knew that my grandparents would be waiting for us with the horse and wagon, then the first stop was to my Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom in Llanfair PG who had a big spread waiting for us [he was a mail man in Llanfair PG]. Across the road from my aunt's was a big rock which we used to climb up with our cousins while the relatives enjoyed the reunion, afterwards we got back onto the wagon and Polly the horse trotted off to Talwrn, which I seem to remember was about 8 miles, it was a long day and we were...
