Caption for Achill Island, The Quayside C1955: A peaceful scene looking towards the 2,204 ft high Slievemore. Achill is separated from the Mayo coast by a narrow strait, crossed by a swing bridge built in 1888. The railway once ran from Westport to Achill village, but closed in 1937.
