I was one of the many paper boys and girls that worked for Horslins the newsagent. I would get up a 5:00 am every morning and wait outside in the cold for the papers, magazines and comics to arrive. We used to have to mark up our route and then get out and deliver the papers. I hated doing it during the winter months because it was so cold and dark. This the South Est Corner of the junction on the A4 known as Everret's Corner. Just around to the right from this position are some lock-up shops that I remember from the early 1950s which included a Gents Barbers. Further along still was the Essoldo Cinema and Ballroom (known locally as Dollies). Opposite this corner was a row of brick built shops which included a Post Office.
