My father, a post office engineer, was transferred from Stoke Newington to the Larkswood exchange in 1936. I was seven years old when we moved to 49, Malvern Avenue. I first attended Thorpe Hall school, then later Selwyn Avenue junior boys school. My very best friend, Eric Galley's father owned a fish shop just around the corner in Hale End Road. I grew up in Beech Hall Road from birth (!948!) until I married and moved away In 1965. I went to Sidney Burnell Infants, Selwyn Girls and then Sidney Burnell Secondery from 1959 to 1963 when I left at 15 and went to work at the Halex. I loved it there and I remember the department manager was Miss Thom. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from "back in the day" My maiden name was Lynch
I lived at 11, wickham highams park until I got married in 1968. Went to Selwyn infants which was mixed then went next door to the junior girls school as the boys school was the otherside of the infants. At age 11 went to Sidney Burnell until I left at the age of 15. My mum worked at the Halex and remembering in the school holidays meeting her from work by the gates where they clocked out. I used to stay with my aunt and cousin Joy Culley in Shirley Grove. I used to go to meet my uncle Syd from work down Cuckcuhall Lane or maybe it was Nightingale Lane and have a ride home on his crossbar of his bike. I also remember the big chimney stack being taken down. Later my aunt moved to Enfield and had a grocery shop in Baker Street, it was called Culleys, and I used to go on deliveries with my uncle in his very old Ford car, then they moved to Suffolk to retire x
