Once My Home

A Memory of Bidford-on-Avon

I lived here for two years in 1941/42.  My father rented it from Mrs Switzer who owned Bell Court.  I was ten years old and together with my parents was escaping the Birmingham bombing.  I used to fish from that very unstable veranda. We later rented a home on Grange Road in Bidford.

this cottage was at the bottom of my garden as a child I'm Sandra Sweetzer O'Brien. I remember my grandma Mrs Sweetzer renting it out to people as a long term let when I was a small child in later years she would rent it out as a holiday let ideal for fishermen they could just sit on the balcony and fish all day long !

Tips & Ideas

Not sure what to write? It's easy - just think of an important place in your life and ask yourself:

  • How does it feature in your personal history?
  • What are your best memories of this place?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How does it feel, seeing these places again?
  • Do you remember stories about the community, its history & people?
