Austin's Mead

A Memory of Bovingdon

I remember moving to Bovingdon in 1965, we lived in Austin's Mead (they were the houses for the R.A.F. families). My name was Andrea Jackson then, I was about 7 yrs old. The local doctor was Dr. Anderson. At the bottom of Austin's Mead there was an old forge.

A memory shared by Andrea Miller , on Jan 11th, 2009.

Hi Andrea
I know this was a while ago, and I hope you don't mind me contacting you. I am working on a new architecture series with George Clarke for Channel 4 and was interested to read your memories of Bovingdon from 1965. I am researching the area from the early 70s and trying to find photos of Bovingon and some of its streets from that time, and also talk to people for general research. I would be very interested in finding out more if it's something you would be happy to help with? If so please email me on (Betty is the production company making the series on behalf of Channel 4, and I am the assistant producer).
Many thanks!

Tips & Ideas

Not sure what to write? It's easy - just think of an important place in your life and ask yourself:

  • How does it feature in your personal history?
  • What are your best memories of this place?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How does it feel, seeing these places again?
  • Do you remember stories about the community, its history & people?
