Here we are looking at shops on the side opposite the Parade. Wainwright the chemist's (right) is an old Eastleigh firm that until recently survived in the centre of the town, but this branch has become a showroom for heating appliances. The taller building standing out from the building line is the former Westminster Bank, and the smaller building is still the Chandler's Ford Post Office.

Our family had already started plans to emigrate to Canada in 1956. I graduated from North End Secondary Modern after completing my O levels in June. I needed a job for a few months until we left in November. I heard that Dr Burge the chemist was looking for someone to fill in for a while. I applied for the job and started right away.
