In 1944, when I was six, bombs dropped at the end of our road in N. Mitcham (Caithness Road) rendering our home, and others, uninhabitable, and after spending one night at Woodland Way Community Hall we were transferred to the underground shelters on Figge's Marsh. I used to work for DER tv rentals and most of the time worked right up to the Thames to fix tv's. I always wondered where all the lads went or ended up. I do remember Doris though, worked the 'phones, always had a fag dangling from one side of her mouth, so much so, she had a nicotine stained cheek! Used to call her 'dog-end-Doris', bless..
I remember the train set that used to run around the toy shop, you used to put a penny in the slot and it would run into the back of the shop and out again. I was born in Mitcham in 1950 and lived in Glebe Court on the top floor looking out onto the post office, when I was about 6ish (long time ago).
Born 1943. I briefly attended Lonesome with Roger Watts. He lived in Eldertree Way and I lived in Eldertree Place. Then to Bordergate and Bond Road School in 1948. Met David Grayson, Dale Foster, Robin Theobold etc.. On Bordergate I played with Dereck Stevens, Alfie Sallis, Micheal Barnet and many others.
