The late 19th-century work by Bodley was of such high standard and blended in so well that it is now difficult to identify.
This is Botley Hill Farmhouse, which has been a restaurant for a number of years. Today it is a popular pub and eatery.
To their left a science block was added in 1933; there is a chapel further to the left, designed in 1909 by Bodley.
Miss Matilda Talbot donated Lacock Abbey, together with most of the village, Manor Farm and Bewley Common, to the National Trust between 1944 and 1946.
For a while the Bewleys' only local rival had been the London Road Ironworks, which was opposite a house called The Cloisters.
