In the distance is Wattisham Road, with 1930s Local Authority housing and the larger Brookfields Estate, begun in 1948.
Note the grave slabs and box tombs, and the rear of Brookfields shop behind the church.
The spired church of St Anne Brookfield, 1853, by George Plunkett, is clearly seen silhouetted against the sky, with St Joseph's, more familiarly known as 'Holy Joe's', to its right.
Broomfield Road corner was already a problem, with its 'No Right Turn' signs and people wary of crossing the road.
The Broomfield Road premises - pictured in the year of their completion - were the school's third proper home.
Included in this view (taken from the top of what is known as the Broomfields) is the old Willesborough Hospital.
