Cross Keys Pub

A Memory of Dagenham.

My dad, Cliff O'Dell, frequented the pub on a regular basis, he always had 'a few' and always ended up singing "Danny Boy". He had a garage called O'Dell Bros, on Eastbrook Road, where my brother Cliff worked, also our cousin Andrew. Cliff went to Canada in 1968 and Dad passed away in 1972. My mum, Eileen, came to live in Basildon around 1985, she passed away in 2004. The memories of our childhood in Dagenham have all been evoked by other people's memories on this website - fantastic. I love looking at the old photos of Dagenham, although I believe that it is not the same place anymore, but then again where is? Happy Days

If its the same Cliff, i used to work with him when he left school in the early 60s. He was a jack the lad then with the Heathway boys, but we always had a good friendship. I remember inviting him to our youth club in Becontree. He turned up with the boys and done the club over, as it used to happen in those days. But we never fell out. Sorry to hear of his passing, will never forget him. Eric
