Headley Down In My Youth
A Memory of Headley Down.
I remember Headley Down so very well in the war days, Wilsons shop and post office, Weavers bakery, the barber, Miss Farrant her cart and donkey, houses like Stagsdene long gone.
Hardly a house on the Down when I was a lad, no roads, just negotiable tracks,
Beech Hill club. Reg Obrien's coal business and the laundry. People like John Eames, the Brooker family, the Holloways, Kelly's and the Hacks. "Nutty" Coombes and his racing bike and one of the greatest Sonny Johnson the hairdresser. I look at it now and wonder, why all the houses crammed into such a small and pretty area. Best wishes Kenny Sharman p
