Galley Common
A Memory of Nuneaton.
Lovely childhood memories of Valley Road in the 1950`s, lived there from 1952 till 1956. I was one of five children living with my parents; my dad worked at the Tunnel as he called it. I remember getting chased off from wandering near the slurry pit. I remember the butchers van calling round the streets and giving us kids a free 'raw' sausage that I actually ate! I also remember taking the peelings for the chickens to a house across the road and being given a free egg for them. Also memories of sheep in our back garden as it was all countryside and farms in those days. Also my dad coming home with a lovely puppy from a local farm, it was a Collie crossed with an Alsation and we had him for 11 years. Lovely memories of walks along the lanes with my mum, and calling in the Stute as it was known. Our family name was Green.
