More about this scene

From The Grove the camera looks south to a view dominated by William Burges's Speech Room with its polychrome brickwork; the tower, by the local architect Charles Nicholson, was not added until 1919. Close to the camera is the Art Schools of 1891 by W C Marshall, which is not of particular merit, but the stone medallions of Reynolds and Hogarth added in 1919 are quite fine.

Harrow Driving School Rayners Lane 1985 1986 Approx
Memories of getting the tube from Arnos Grove to Rayners Lane and then the long walk up Imperial Drive - until reaching the driving centre. The set up included traffic lights, zebra crossings, roundabouts, parking spaces, parked cars and a class room. Universal Stationers!
Back in my very early days as a rep for a greeting card company called Rust Craft one of my North London accounts was Universal Stationers in Harrow. My store contact was the redoubtable greeting card department manageress, Mrs May Fernyhough! Happy days!

Filmdirector Frederick Zelnik In Harrow
Unfortunately, I have never stayed at the beautiful Harrow. But I'm very interested in Harrow because I'm looking for a house where the German filmdirector and producer Frederick (Friedrich) Zelnik and his wife, the actress Lya Mara, lived. Harrow Driving Centre Rayners Lane 1970's
Does anyone remember the driving centre near Rayners Lane during 1970's, it was an off road driving centre offering theory and practice to under 17's, I and many friends attended a course here before having proper lessons. I believe it was an innovation of its time, sadly no longer there.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
