A Memory of Harrow.

Memories of getting the tube from Arnos Grove to Rayners Lane and then the long walk up Imperial Drive - until reaching the driving centre.
The set up included traffic lights, zebra crossings, roundabouts, parking spaces, parked cars and a class room. Inside, a cut in half mini - showing you all the workings of the engine and steering - looks like someone had cut it open in length - half the seats half the car - brilliant.
Then the simulators - seat, gears, clutch, brake and accelerator and a screen in front - with dreary sounds. Seat belt on, start up and off you went, 45 minutes driving a simulator, instructor over your shoulder, 30mins chatting about highway code and best practice. Back home.
Next 6 lessons, again all classroom. Then came session 7 in a real car around the track. Dual brakes, instructor with you at all times, two passengers in the car. About 2 acres of land. Another 30 minutes practical session. Nice and slow. Back home.
Session 8, 9 ,10,11 all on the track. Roundabouts, traffic lights, pedestrians, parked cars, parking, reversing, 3 point turns. Back home.
Then the big day, session 12 - once around the track and out the gates onto the open road. An hour of driving everywhere. Back home, course complete - test booked - in my local area of Winchmore Hill - took test a passed first go aged 17.
Harrow driving school cost £77.00 for the whole course - I passed first go and have driven ever since - now 53 - never had an accident and love driving. One of the best experiences I have ever had. At 17 it was amazing. Thank you Harrow.
