Moved to Orchard Road South Ockendon from the east End (Canning Town) in 69 went to Mardyke school, still remember good memories about that school, can remember going down to the Mardyke river, there was a very shallow part near the bridge, this was when you could go down Buckles Lane and walk through the old army barracks and not cross a road until you got to North Stifford. Lydia Hall There were some lovely buildings that have been lost to demolition , the elegant Georgian Pear Tree House that was the Doctors home...the "Dutch" house on the green....and does anyone remember the Windmill that was left to rot.....further afield was the Elizabethan Belhus House with a parkland designed by Capability Brown , now a golf course....so sad that Thurrock Council did not see fit to preserve its ...see more
So happy I have just found this site. The photographs brought back so many happy memories of my childhood. We lived in the prefabs in Larkspur Road, number 24. I was 2 years old in 1946 when we moved there, and we moved away when I was 14, to London, We had such fun, freedom to run and play in the many green areas behind the church, not forgetting the naughty days when we ignored our parents ...see more
I worked in Sainsbury and pearks then that changed to maypole then liptons.can anyone remember the name of the store that sold tv and radio fridges and such,it was the fhw end.double shop.it was run by a guy named Mick..was chatting with a friend but just can't remember it's name.thank you.
i live in dawley from 1951 - 1967 i had some good times went culverhouse my younger brothers went leonards was thinking of coming back for day just to see the changes
Happy days spent here back in the late fifties, I remember playing in that rectangular sandpit and on those swings Along the fence at in the background of this picture was a small ditch we we used to go hunting for newts.

Have just come across this site by accident, and was amazed by the number of names I recognised from my childhood. I lived at no.82 celandine road from about 1953/54 until we moved to Fullerton crescent about 1965 approx. My name was brenda chambers before I got married.
