Howards Bakery

A Memory of Abertillery.

does anyone remember Howard's bakery at the bottom of tillery st. It was run by Jack (my dad) George and Frances. My name is John Howard and I left home in 1962 to join the Royal Air Force.
Anyway I would like to hear from anyone who knew me all those many many years ago

Hello John, Remember fondly your bakery, I walked from Roch St to British School, (where my father taught & possibly you in early 50's) and some days given a penny to buy a hot, long bread roll straight from the oven at the side 'half-door', oh the heavenly smell, impatiently hanging over the door for rolls to be served, then across the bridge to school eating it by pulling out the hot dough from side and finally the crusty shell---bliss. From age 5 I shopped for bread for 2 households on Saturdays on threat of the hairbrush if I dared to pick at the crust before I got crusty tin and cob home from your shop. And as for Swiss buns and Chelsea buns---need I say more?! No memory of cakes as no sweet tooth, good quality bread was and still is my weakness.
