Steam Train In Danson Park

A Memory of Bexleyheath.

I was researching the existence of this attraction as most people I know are too young to remember it. In the early 1960's it was there and I did once or twice have a ride on it- It ran on the West side of the lake and the old engine shed is still there, I believe. As a kid- I loved to play on the track when the engine wasn't running! There also used to be a 'speedboat' a Blue and white one from memory that took families on trips up and down the lake- long gone, Im sure.
I remember the lake freezing over and skaters on it- Id guess in about 1960 or maybe 1959.

I too remember the train and the power boat.
I remember being told the boat was an ex WW2 navy launch.
I also remember the open air swimming pool which was adjacent to what is now the new motorway grade A2
Danson Mansion was largely derelict But had an ice cream and sweet stall on the ground floor in summer.
