The deep inlet of Boscastle Harbour is one of the few safe anchorages on this exposed coast. Its narrowness and the fact that it is surrounded by high cliffs make it very difficult to spot from the sea, and a winding inlet has to be negotiated before the harbour can be reached.

Relating to the two little girls standing in the street, the one on the right is Nellie Davy, my aunt. She was the eldest child of Harry and Mary Ann Davy (nee Ferrett). Nellie and three other siblings were born at Butts but between 1906 and 1908 the family moved to Providence House (now named St. Christophers) where four other children were born.
