More about this scene

As well as the old church, Braddan has a newer one built out of local stone in 1869 (at a cost of £4300) to a design by John Loughborough Pearson. A tower and spire were added in the 1880s, though the spire was eventually removed after suffering storm damage. Both before and between the two world wars the Sunday open-air services at Braddan were so popular that the railway used to lay on special trains (see 59172, page 38).
