Boston Manor Park Summer Of 1961

A Memory of Brentford.

Does any one remember the summer of 1961 in the park. In July 1961 the temperature reached 31 deg c. Hanging out by the lake. The sounds of bowls. The sounds of tennis. Ted the park keeper. When you entered the park it seemed you were entering another a world, a tranquil world. No M4. Beautiful summer evenings! Youth. Nice people, Jean, Susan, Dina, Lesley, and Graham. Lovely clean park, nothing to worry about except which current top ten single to buy that week. Also which clothes should you buy, a Beatle jacket or a Mersey jacket.

I remember the summer of 1961. I lived opposite Boston Manor Park and enjoyed going to there with my friend Lesley and meeting some of the lads who went to Brentford Secondary Boys School. We would gather in the little wooden pavilion by the bowling green. The pavilion was demolished years ago and the bowling green is now a children's play area.
Was your friend Lesley Greenwood. Do you remember Susan and Jean?
I used to play with my friends down by what we called the canal, often tying ropes to trees and swinging out over the water, or riding cycles along the towpath. My old school Walpole Grammar used to use the playing fields for football and cricket, and as I wasn't any good at either, they were sports lessons that I would dread! I did used to chat to Cookie Mills via friends reunited but sadly that site is no longer.
Hi Nina I have been chatting on this site to Nick Beard and he told me you were on this site too? We were mentioning people who we used to know as young teens and he mentioned you. Hope you're OK it would be lovely to hear from you. Regards Vic
