Nostalgic memories of Bulphan's local history

Share your own memories of Bulphan and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

My late grandma and auntie Gladys lived in The Rest, Church Lane. I visited them every year with my parents and sister. Bulphan holds very special memories for me. I remember Mr Steele from Stanley Road and my grandma had a friend called Florrie Blundell. We always went to the Bulphan Fete on August bank holiday, and my uncle and his family used to pitch a tent in the very large garden of "The Rest". My ...see more
I remember the doctor used to visit the village once or twice a week & set up his surgery in Mrs Benton's house. The waiting room was Mrs's Benton's sitting room, we used to sit with her as we waited for our turn, I would've been 5yrs old at the time. Sometime after that I remember ...see more

PC Cook and PC Man were the village police constables, the police house was in Church Road where I lived with Mum, Dad and two ...see more
Adrian Vidler, again I forgot to mention my brother Anton Vidler and Robert Whiting, Robert Murray, these are past students of the school.
The dinner ladies deserve a mention, Miss Went and Mrs Thomas, they looked after us kids and I believe that Roy Thomas is still in the village. The photo from Friths is just how it was - well done. Adrian Vidler
I went to Bulphan School in 1955/6 and can remember Mrs Last as the headteacher. Those were the days - I can always remember the lazy days of the 1950s. It was the best time. I can remember the school trips to Norfolk and Hampton Court. Mrs Last put herself out to arrange all of this and on a shoestring budget. She was a marvellous person. I can remember Martin Drury, Claire Packman, Linda Hanneman, Jeff Dommall, ...see more
