A Memory of Chelmsford.

Does anyone remember the name of the coffee shop in Duke Street opposite the Golden Fleece, you could smell the coffee from miles away!

I remember that shop! Mum and I used to get off the bus there, just in front of the Cathedral. The smell was glorious! I recall that the woodwork of the shop was painted a shiny black gloss. Cant for the life of me remember what the shop was called.
The shop was called Harrison’s, run by old Mr Harrison and his son.
I worked there after school and in holidays in 1964/5.
My job was taking in deliveries and re- stocking shelves and drawers in the shop which contained loose dates, cooking chocolate, etc. The chocolate came in large slabs which I had to break up (some of which found its way into my mouth!).
It also sold some very interesting cheeses.
