Essex Police Cadet School 1970 1973

A Memory of Chelmsford.

At 16 I joined the Essex Police Cadet School in 1970. The School was built in the late 1960s. Training at the School was for two years. On site education, accommodation and sports facilities was provided. We also were 'bussed' to Chelmsford College of a Further Education - here on a part time basis we obtained qualifications.

Part of our training included participating in athletic events (running, race walking, orienteering etc.), camping, walking across Dartmoor, and Welsh mountains etc. We also were sent to outward bound schools. Mine was Eskdale, in the Lake District. Also this meant I have never been so fit....

So during my stay, I was given the opportunity to acquire qualifications and life work experience. For this, throughout my life, I have been extremely grateful and publicly thank those who gave me this opportunity.

Though I never went onto pursue this career, without this experience I would not acquired later in life higher qualification and stable employment.

The amazing people I met included Hedgethorne, and my friends (Nigel, Tim, Trevor, Costa, and Bob etc.). I always hope that one day we will meet.

Lawrence
