Collyhurst Buildings

A Memory of Collyhurst.

May 3rd 2012, I was born at number 3 Collyhurst Buildings, Manchester, England. The fourth daughter of Mary (Cissy) McCarley, and her husband, Joe. My sisters were Mary, Winifred, Margaret, and Vera. There was a son, John Joseph, who died as an infant.
We all attended St. Chad's school, Cheetham Hill. Our home was 'The Dwellings' where we lived throughout the war years, apart from the time Vera and I were evacuated and lived in Darwen. Missing our family, we were finally reunited, and returned home to the flats. Later, (our father, deceased) Mam, Margaret, Vera and I moved to live on Susan Street where I was married to an American serviceman at St. Patrick's church in Manchester. I now live in at 8937 Covina St San Diego California, USA.
I would love to hear from former residents of the Dwellings, or St. Chad's church!

Apart from my family, who still live in Manchester England, I have no touch with former neighbours who lived in the Dwelling,
Don't miss those 'rainy days' but I will always have fond memories of growing up in Collyhurst!
Drop me line!
I was born at 30 Collyhurst Buildings in Sept. 1947. Lived there until 1953 when we moved to Blackley. It was paradise. Still live in Blackley but unfortunately not what it was.
I am looking for any information about my grandparents. I recently found out that my Mum was adopted by my grandad, and there is no father's name on her birth certificate, only my nana's, Sarah Gorman (Sally). Sally lived at 1 Westmoreland Street, Harpurhey but was born at 21 Collyhurst Buildings on 4th Nov 1946. I am not sure why she was born there and who lived there. My Mum died at an early age, I have no living relatives who can help me with this, and I would love to know who her Father was. There was talk when I was young about an American or French Canadian serviceman involved, but I have no name for him. Any information at all would be fantastic.
I have ancestors from early 1900's who lived at no. 6 collyhurst buildings, their surname was Szpak and they were Polish imigrants. Names you might remember are: Michael, Josie, Agnes, they too went to St. Chads School as did myself in the 50's.
