Before The Fire.

A Memory of Corby.

We moved into 1Greenhill Rise in 1958 when it was the very edge of town, the United counties bus turned around next to the house. We watched the building all around us and watched them build St Andrews, it was directly across the street from our house, will never forget the night it burned down. I was a paperboy at Greens newsagents until they opened Forbouys where I transferred as head paperboy.
My father was a carpentry teacher at Samuel Lloyds School on Rockingham Road until he went to work at Beanfield Secondary Modern. We lived on Newark Drive after it was built. Attended Corby Grammar school. So many memories!! Moved to London for nurse training in Tottenham in 1967 and then moved to the US in 1971!

We lived at 9 Greenhill Rise from around 1956 to 1965.

I was 11 when we left but remember the fire
I moved from scotland to 44 Newark drive when age 10 in 1961. I recall going to Rev Bail church and singing Psalms in the choir....which he would give us 6D (sixpence). I went to Beanfield junior the Beanfield High. My brother went to Kingswood Grammer (much smarter than me) I eventually am living In bay area California. Would love to chat to anyone who was around at that time.
