The Empak Of Amfix
A Memory of Dagenham.
Ah yes, May & Baker...
As a keen amateur photographer in the 1950s and 1960s, I remember using M&B chemicals all the time. Brown, black and white labels - right?? Or was that Johnson's?
I remember one particularly impressive and effective advertisement in Amateur Photographer for an M&B fixer sold in small portion-sized plastic pouches (M-packs). The trade-name of the fixer was "Amfix". The ad showed an oriental gentleman cross-legged on a cushion and smoking a hookah. His body was the square, sharp-cornered pouch of fixer, and the text (which I have never forgotten) read something like "Introducing the Empak of Amfix".
Great idea!
Has anyone got access to the original ad? I'd love to see it again!
