Wentworth County Primary School

A Memory of Dartford.

As far as I can see, no-one has left a memory of my old primary school. So, let me start this off (if I may?): Living in nearby North Road, I attended this school from 1962-68. When I started at the Infants' School, my reception teacher was a Mrs. Ransom. Later infants' teachers were Mrs. Field and Miss Sutton. When I progressed to the Junior School,my first teacher was a lovely, newly-qualified young lady named Miss Fox who soon became Mrs. Smith. I also had Mr. Rapley and - for the last two years - Mr. Mills. Mr. Mills had also taught my brother ten years previously and had been at this school FOR EVER! He lived in Bexleyheath and cycled to and from home and work. In those days - and despite this being a primary school - discipline was very strict. Any daydreaming or inattention (such as playing with one's pencil box) would quickly bring about a sharp slap to one's head, bottom or the back of one's legs! That was how things were and I don't feel that I am any the worse for it! Among my friends at this school (some of whom followed me to Dartford West Secondary School when we we eleven) were: Mark Bunnage, Simon Drew, Geoffrey Woolley, David Chappel and Brian West. I must also mention Nicky Clements whose mother (Daisy) gave me a tortoise which I still have - fifty-seven years later!

Someone from my year recently contacted me having read this Memory. I was SO pleased. Thank you! Anyone else, please? If you went to this school and particularly if you were in my year PLEASE message me through Francis Frith. Thank you!
