Little Ealing

A Memory of Ealing.

In 1955 I went to little Ealing junior school and I remember being taught by mr Lim. In 1958 I went to Acton County Grammar School where I was bullied mercilessly but in those days all the help you got was "ignore them they'll soon stop" They didn't. I was very unhappy and lied throughout my school life to avoid trouble. I also went to Ealing Swimming Club and St John's Ambulance on a Wednesday night. I attended Chiswick Poly with Lilian and Irene Board.
I also remember the bomb damage in Carlyle Road and used to run up the nearby steps as my gran lived in Overdale Road near Dave King's mum. She was so proud to meet Dave. I also remember going to Mrs Pinkertons dance classes in West Ealing with my brother who used to bunk off and spend the class money on sweets. I went to a Youth club near the Pitman College but I can't remember what it was called. I remember going with my mum to Abernethies, Bentalls in the Broadway and Rowse in West Ealing, my mum thought they were very posh!
I went to Ealing Art College in the evening and spent many a long hour in the refectory. Who remembers the dance hall in the Broadway opposite the town hall?

I had forgottonn Abernethies. Bentalls had a coffee shop, which was very nice. I remember seeing one of the waitresses in Staines where I pressume she had moved to around 1970/80. W H Rowse always seemed empty, but had a terrific atmosphere. My mum used to buy material and patterns there. I also remembe1lr the JACARANDA coffee bar up the side road opposite Rowse near the Salvation Army.
It is now a car sales place. Sometime ago I was looking at it thinking of all the memories of what had taken place in what is now the showroomm. Powerful stuff powerful memories.
