Memories Of 1950s Eastleigh
A Memory of Eastleigh.
I lived in Chandler's Ford but went to school in Eastleigh. First to Cranbury Road and later North End Secondary. Remember the Library well, a small children's section, couldn't wait until I was old enough to use the adult section, so many more choices. The bandstand was in the park. On summer weekends bands played, we would sit on the grass and enjoy.
Sometimes we would buy a platform ticket just to watch the trains go by, rushing from Southampton to London.
The best ice cream was at Ruscillo's, it was a real treat to have a cone there. At five o'clock each afternoon employees from Pirellis and Cawstons would stream out on their bikes to Leigh Road. Not many people had cars in those days.
Fleming Park had a fish pond, miniature golf and tennis courts and a playground. Spent many happy hours there.
I now live in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and have lots of great memories of Eastleigh.

Miss Jones our Math teacher had trouble controlling the class, especially Oxley. I live in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Even though North End did not have a stellar reputation, I think that we were given a good basic education and many great experiences that I still value today.
The friendships were a memory that still continues.
