Evenlode School Pupil 1943 To 1949

A Memory of Evenlode.

I lived in Portland House, Evenlode from 1938 until 1957 and then in Portland Terrace until 1961. I remember Mrs Hoggetts at the shop. Football on the village green on a Sunday until the Fox opened at 12 o'clock. Mrs Dee was the school teacher and Mr Dee was a teacher at Burford. Mr Harry Cairns was landlord at the pub. Mrs Williams ran the post office. I played cricket and football for BDE United. We had electric in the village in 1948 and the mains water just before then. Before that we used oil lamps and the village pump. During the Second World War Mr Dippie was the air raid warden. GOOD OLD EVENLODE.
