My Grandad And Folkestone Harbour

A Memory of Folkestone.

i remember my grandfather working in the security box at the entrance of folkestone harbour, i remember my grandmother would take me down to him during the morning to take his sandwiches, i would sometimes have to stay with him there because my mother had a long term illness so nan and grandad helped out by looking after me when dad was working or visiting my mum, my grandmother used to work at the kiosk at the open air swimming pool and a while after she worked at the sunny sands cafe (tea for free sometimes an ice cream for me) she always did her best to help. grandad not long after he retired unfortunately died (his life was his work, i think) but for his retirement was given a pocket watch which was then my nans and inherited by my father and now inherited by me (photos available on request) as with the newspaper article for the time served. apart from guarding our port in his later years grandad was also involved in guarding our shores during ww11 and his records can be found in the national archives of great britain. these are just a minute sample of some of the memorys i have of folkestone and some of my family ties with folkestone harbour my wife also has ties with folkestone harbour but to tell it all would take a while but if anyone is interested i would be happy to share them all with you.
thankyou for reading

I remember this, and it takes me back to the 1970s. Remember 1976 and the summer? Scorching hot days, massive storms at night. Also remember the fog horn, followed by squawking Sea Gulls. I remember our Grandfathers passion for fishing, and the strong smell of fresh fish in the bath room. Remember there was a mangle there too. 7 Penfold road I mean
