Here Every Wednesday At 2.00pm, I'd Walk Past Here To Meet My Dad At The ..

A Memory of Frimley Green.

...... bottom of the road just past the estate entrance corner shop, and wait until he arrived on his way home on his BSA Bantam 125 cc motorbike this would of been 1955.

I was not yet at school I was 4 years old, and this was the day of the week all shops closed for half a day, across the country. (they also closed all day on a Sunday too).

He would pop me on his petrol (gas) tank and we'd go home together..... that went on for around 6 months until a local policeman on his old black bicycle stopped him and I had to walk back.

I was really happy there, but looking back it does seem amazing to me that I was let out at such a young age.
We lived at the very top of the estate.. I could see Farnborough from my bedroom window.

Our family lived on this same estate from 1951 until 1960. 8 Hillside Crescent, the Hayward family. Your last name rings a bell. Did you have older siblings? We were three children, Michael 1946, Julia 1948 and Moira 1956.
Yes, I have and older Brother Nigel who now lives in the USA , and Christine Lott.(now passed away), Christine was 10 years older and Nigel circa 2.5 years older.
I've just had a look on Google earth to orientate myself.. and I think we did know you? Our house was above you across the grass, number 99 Worsley road .. small world. I now live right next to the Mediterranean sea. They were wonderful happy days..
Just went back to this site and saw your comments. I am sure my brother Michael will remember you. Funnily enough I have lived in the USA for the past 16 years but my brother Michael still lives in the Portsmouth area and my sister in Southampton. I will send this link to my brother. He just came to New Mexico to visit us and we spent many hours comparing our memories of Frimley. You are right, we had a great childhood there running free on the state and at the rec as well as venturing as far afield as St Catherine's wood and the canal at Frimley Green. My brother and I always regretted that our parents decided to move away especially as we had started at Francehill Secondary Modern and were doing well. Our little sister was too young to notice.Unfortunately our education took a downturn in Southampton and we never really recovered from the move but were able to get things right later in life.
My brother had a close friend Roger Broomfield and an older brother who also lived on Worsely road. Another friend was Peter Pike who lived a bit further down towards the rec. The Southons lived next door to us, Colin and Theresa and next to them Linda Parks.Of course we lost touch with them all. I wonder if any original families are still there? Julia (Hayward) now Devine.
Hello Julia, just read your comment Colin and I lived next door at no 9 hilllside. I remember your family moving to Southampton, we came for a visit once you had all settled in. The Smith family then moved into 8, Paul, Pru, Mandy and Jonathan I now live with husband John back at 9 hillside were we have lived since dad passed away back in 1981. Linda Parker now lives in Norfolk, both parents have passed away. Colin lives in Farnborough. John Ferguson is still living next door. Only a few of the oldies left on the estate, we did have a great childhood, everyone knew each other and playing in the street, up the rec was the best.
I can't believe I didn't see your message until now. Thanks for sharing your memories. I still have a photo of Colin and Theresa Southon with me and my siblings in our front garden at number 8. Are you Theresa? It's not clear who is writing. My brother Michael and sister Moira still live in Southampton. I live in the USA . Julia
Having a senior moment and of course you are Theresa. I remember so clearly those days and how envious I was of you because Win and Fred seemed to have their lives together and you had a lovely home and also a Granddad that lived with you. Our mothers were very close friends and often chatted over the fence. I also remember being so impressed with your Dad's white drip dry shirts hanging on the line to dry. Quite the modern thing back then! Also envied the number of Easter Eggs you both got every year. We didn't have many relatives so we were lucky to just get one or two! Colin and I were close for a while until I got interested in my brother's best friend. I remember Colin's birthday was on Valentine's day. Hope to hear back from you, Julia
