Just south of Frodsham are some natural caves in the red sandstone rock. They appear to have been enlarged in the Middle Ages and are a rare surviving example of mediaeval mining. I had never heard of these caves - or even Frodsham itself - unitl I moved to the Manchester area in 1966 at the age of 21.
