Gronant Institute And Maes Y Dre

A Memory of Gronant.

The house on the left of the photo is Windyridge, 15 Maes y Dre. My grandparents lived there from new (about 1927) until my grandmother died in 1997. My father was born there in 1930.
The Institute was endowed to the village by my great great uncle, Richard Hughes. He was a shipowner in Liverpool who had been born in the village, where his parents kept the Gronant Inn. It has recently been sold and there are plans to develop the site.
I believe that the photo could be earlier than 1939, as Windyridge's plot looks newly laid out rather than 10+ years old. My grandparents created a beautiful garden.
