Younger Days
A Memory of Kingswinford.
I was born at 9 Mount Pleasant, Kingswinford, in 1948. It was a big house which used to be a pub, with four rooms down stairs and four rooms upstairs; the only lighting was down stairs and you had to go to bed using a candle. Four families lived there, my great grandparents (Downton), my grandparents (Churchman), Uncle Bert and his wife (Churchman) and my parents David and Doreen Churchman.
My great grandparents, George and Thurza Churchman, lived at 7 The Villiage, by St Marys Church - don't know to much about them.
I lived at 9 Mount Pleasant until I was 4 yrs old and my sister was 6 months old, then moved to 107 Greenfields Road until I married.
The school I went to first was the old St Marys, on the main road, then the Portway School opposite our home until I went to the school now known as Kingswinford School (Penzer Street when I was there).
There is lots to tell but I must go now.
Mrs Christine A Baker nee Churchman.
